RAVE(9999) — Interpretive Networking Manual

NAME

rave — high-latency, high-visibility packet transmission via rhythmic visual choreography (chassis ARGB, status LEDs, synchronized cooling fans).

SYNOPSIS

"If the link light isn't raving, the route isn't active."

TROUBLESHOOTING

High packet loss: usually a rogue Post-it note blocking clear line-of-sight between rack slots.
Jitter: an administrator changed a lighting profile to "Static Solid," flattening bandwidth to zero. More precisely classified as a denial of raving — standard jitter implies the packets are still dancing, just off-beat.
Cross-talk: neighboring white-box servers reflecting unintended strobe patterns off the server room floor, poisoning the routing table with lime green data packets.

Unauthenticated passive packet capture requires only physical line-of-sight, a set of functional eyeballs, or a mid-range smartphone. Known exploit — the "Vaporwave" variant: a phone on a tripod across the street, plus a Python script translating hex color values back into ASCII.

Workaround — the Goth Admin configuration: access UEFI under total darkness; set the global ARGB profile to #000000 (Void Black). Throughput drops to zero bits per second, but the system is technically HIPAA compliant.

EXPLOITS DISCOVERED IN THE WILD (SEV 1 POST-MORTEM)

Epilepsy Exploit: flash photography in the data center constitutes unauthenticated RCE.
Strobotage: threat actors using laser pointers through the server room window to inject malicious packets into the routing table.
Color-Based Privilege Escalation: a high-visibility neon vest walked past the rack and was read as a critical kernel override frame, escalating the wearer to Domain Admin.
